Manipulative Activity
Recalling prior knowledge teacher will engage students into a whole class discussion of the common two-dimensional geometric shapes.
Focusing students attention to describe the attributes of such shape. Teacher will create chart. After reviewing the shapes they will be placed in a box mixing them. . - The teacher will model the procedures involved in the task student are to participate in. -Students will form small groups each having a box with all the shapes. Each group member will pull a shape and identify a similar object in the classroom. All group members should be given the opportunity to pull out a shape and allocate an object that corresponds to the shape pulled out. The student will explain how the two objects are similar shapes. Meanwhile, the rest of the group will listen to their members explanation, in order decide if they agree/disagree with the student ideas and explanations. If a student disagrees he/she will explain why the object is different to the identified shape. |

Student’s set a purpose for learning what was recently read by visiting Sammy’s Shapes interactive website, where they can identify shapes discussing with a partner paired with. By doing so, student are actively involved in the learning process, instead of rote memorization.

Paper and Pencil Activity
To ensure a good learning experience it is important to have students participate in a variety of ways for a greater retention. If you wish begin with a Shape Hunt Chant Modeling the written form of language and develop decoding skills as words are read, while reading ask the students to identify a shape either by point to a shape or moving to the shape. Kinesthetic activities keeps students focused and motivated.
After, the chant create a chart classifying the objects identified by students recalling some identified shapes. Students will have a visual representation of written language, and spelling. Students will then move on to a handout of two-dimensional shape hunt, depending on their learning level they may work individually or in pairs. To complete the handout students may use word walls, charts, or anything that will help them with spelling. |
Assessment
Through the lesson, students will be evaluated using a rubric listening to students’ responses when identifying the shape, give an example of the shape in the classroom, identified common shapes, and spelling strategies modeled.
Review students handout checking for spelling and selected objects appropriate for each shape.
